What Are The ITSA And TSS All About?

Numerous industries throughout the world have employed the thermal spray process to apply coatings for various uses. These coatings can range from everything protection oriented (against wear, abrasion, corrosion, erosion, etc.) to safety (coatings that are nonslip). It is a safe bet that whatever industry you are involved in, some type of thermal spray coating is used on something, somewhere. Even if people are unaware of these protective coatings and the process through which they are applied, they remain an irreplaceable factor in the industries in which they are used.

Whereas, some of that information may be common knowledge to many, did you know that there is actually a Thermal Spray Society? Here is a little background on this organization and more.

What Is the Thermal Spray Society?

Affiliated with AMS International, TSS (or Thermal Spray Society) serves individuals involved in the ever-evolving technology of thermal spray. They use a number of dedicated services and products in their endeavors.

TSS Membership

If you are a member of the Thermal Spray Society, you will automatically receive not only Spraytime Quarterly but an Advanced Materials and Process Magazine subscription. The International Thermal Spray Association works in conjunction with TSS to jointly publish Spraytime Quarterly. It Is the society’s official newsletter.

Members of TSS might also be interested in subscribing to JTST (Journal of Thermal Spray Technology). More about this publication can be viewed by clicking here. TSS member subscribers and ASM (American Society for Metals) member subscribers can access current and past Journal content online.

The International Thermal Spray Association

A standing American Welding Society committee, the International Thermal Spray Association is another organization involved in the world of thermal spray. This particular association’s existence is dedicated to technologies involved in thermal spray and their expansion. ITSA’s goal is to benefit both society and industry.

When it comes to thermal spray’s development and its history, this association is (and has been) very closely engaged. The International Thermal Spray Association was once referred to by the name Metallizing Service Contractors, back in 1948. It has been intricately involved with thermal spray technologies and all of its major advances through the years. It is also closely associated with South America’s and North America’s market development, standards, education, industry events, materials, and equipment.

ITSA Membership

The ITSA is a company-member industrial association. They encourage any companies that might be interested in becoming potential members to gain a better understanding of the benefits of membership. Interested companies can speak with company representatives, committee members, and ITSA officers. A list of member companies involved in the International Thermal Spray Association, their representatives, services, and their products, is reviewable for anyone interested. Email inquiries can be submitted to the following address: itsa@thermalspray.org
